Meet the Team

  • Kim Forge

    Owner

Canadian-born Kim grew up on a farm in Alberta near the Rocky Mountains, and had her first taste of Tasmania on a one-year teaching exchange in 2001. She later made northern Victoria home, marrying a fifth-generation Australian farmer and finding her own community through the sport of curling. Kim has represented Australia more than 100 times, and is now Vice President of the World Curling Federation Board. Having travelled the world for her sporting career, Kim has a deep understanding of tourism operations and hospitality, and is passionate about connecting visitors to the Tasmanian story through unique and immersive accommodation experiences. A breast cancer survivor and mother of three, Kim was also the founder of Still at Freycinet, a Nordic-inspired east coast retreat.

A fifth-generation farmer, Rod grew up on his family farm in north-east Victoria, later taking on its ownership and management. He has several decades of experience in crop and stock farming, with a special interest in breeding deer for hunting. Long fascinated with aviation, Rod is a licensed private helicopter pilot, and owns an ex-Canadian military helicopter. He is passionate about facilitating flight access to Currawong Lakes, as well as creating uniquely Tasmanian experiences through premium fly fishing and hunting on the property.

He later undertook a concreting apprenticeship, and is now the proud owner of a local concreting company. Corey is also a passionate commercial sea urchin diver, and President of the Tasmanian Commercial Divers Association. With experience in target shooting, grounds maintenance and business operations, Corey is available to assist and guide Currawong Lakes guests with on-site activities.

  • Chris Lucas

    Chef

Chris began working in kitchens from a young age, and spent three years cooking around Europe in his late teens. At the age of 23, his significant experience and skill earned him a Sous Chef role at a hatted Brisbane restaurant, before a move to Tasmania’s east coast in 2012. Chris has worked as Executive Sous Chef at Freycinet Lodge, Manager at Freycinet Marine Farm, and Sous Chef at Lure Wine Bar Restaurant, and now owns What Grows, offering private chef experiences for small groups and special occasions. With a passion for local and seasonal produce, Chris oversees Currawong Lakes’ food program, including catering for accommodation and event guests.

  • Tom Blackwell

Tom grew up in the heart of Tasmania’s midlands, where he grew an early interest in hunting with family and friends. A qualified carpenter and builder, Tom owns a building and concreting business, and was engaged to undertake recent renovations of The Lake House and staff quarters at Currawong Lakes. Under his business Hunting Tasmania, he now leads guided fallow deer hunts on the property, offering trophy, meat and education hunting. Tom is passionate about improving deer management plans in the state, with a focus on sustainable hunting, quality genetics, and the commercial venison market in Tasmania.

  • Dr Graham Hosie

Scientific Advisor & Master Fly Fisher

Graham holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Marine Biology from the University of Tasmania, and worked with the Australian Antarctic Division for more than three decades, most recently as a Principal Research Scientist. While marine organisms have been the focus of Graham’s professional career, he has spent more than 40 years furthering his passion for fly fishing and tying flies. He is an advisor to Currawong Lakes’ fly fishing program, as well as an educator, hosting on-site workshops with corporate and leisure groups.

  • Scott Murphy

    Fly Fishing Specialist

Growing up in northern Tasmania, Scott was introduced to the local rivers and fishing from a young age. His early working life included managing department stores while completing his studies in accounting, after which he founded his own bookkeeping practice, later owning and managing a variety of small businesses. A long-time bushwalker, Scott discovered a passion for fly fishing when his children were born, and founded Tasmania Fly Fishing in 2018. With many years of experience catching elusive wild trout in Currawong Lakes’ pristine waters, he and his team of House Guides are the property’s first choice of fly fishing guides for accommodation guests and day visitors.
